June 26, 2026
Greetings in Christ,
This weekend, our Lord extends the invitation to pick up our crosses – all the burdens and sufferings that we carry, the sacrifices we offer in love – for Christ. In taking up our crosses, paradoxically, we find life! In today’s language, the more you make a gift of yourself to others, the more fulfilled your heart becomes. The reward, in short, is Christ Himself. He is our fulfillment of the deepest aspirations of our hearts!
Capital Campaign Planning Study: Parish and school leadership met yesterday evening to review the final report from our Capital Campaign planning study. We received over 200 responses, including both in-person interviews and surveys. We also incorporated feedback from the information session that we hosted in May.
I will provide an overview of the campaign's financial goal, including the projects that will be included in next week’s newsletter. Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide feedback! As always, please pray for the upcoming campaign in September!
Father Maloney and Franciscan Clarist Superior General: We will host a brunch after the 10:00 am Mass this weekend for the Superior General, Sr. Litty (who oversees the entire congregation), and General Councilor, Sr. Jyothis, here visiting their beloved Religious Sisters in the local church. They will be with us for a couple of weeks—checking in with their sisters, praying with them, and taking time to learn more about our parish and the many ways our sisters bless us here at St. Therese.
At the brunch, we will also offer a heartfelt goodbye to Fr. Maloney, in gratitude for his time and ministry at St. Therese. While Fr. Maloney’s official assignment at St. Therese ends next week, he has agreed to come back and help us with Masses as needed. I am very grateful for his willingness to help!
Final Sunday 5:00 pm Mass: We will have our final Sunday evening Mass at 5:00 pm, June 28. We have been blessed to have Teresa Shackelford with her beautiful singing voice and musical gifts with us at this liturgy. With Fr. Maloney’s moving full-time to Benilde-St. Margaret’s, it is very challenging for me to have five Masses on a weekend by myself, which does not include weddings. That said, we will reevaluate the Sunday evening Mass option later this summer.
Parish Office Closed on Friday, July 3: The parish office will be closed on Friday, July 3, and Adoration will not take place. However, we will still offer 7:00 am Mass that day.
Fourth of July: We will have Mass on Saturday, July 4, at 8:00 am to celebrate the blessings God has given to our country.
Vacation Bible School (VBS): St. Therese’s annual Vacation Bible School was a fantastic success this year! We had a fantastic week with over 100 campers and many teen leaders and volunteers. Thank you to our families who participated and our volunteers who shared their time and talents! It was a great week for not only growing in our faith but also having much fun as well!
10th Anniversary: If you can believe it, it will be 10 years to the day that I began at St. Therese on Wednesday, July 1! Please accept my heartfelt gratitude for all the ways so many of you bless our beloved parish with your joy, love, and shared gifts. They say a pastor is formed by his first parish, which I have found to be completely true.
Yesterday, I gave a talk to 10 priests becoming first-time pastors as they soon begin taking care of parishes. My term ends on June 30, 2029. At the end of a term, it is completely up to Archbishop Hebda what he wants to do. Please say a prayer that God’s will is done and that we embrace it with joy! Again, thank you for a fabulous 10 years together and all you do for St. Therese!
Moonshot: Miss the Boat Theater does a nice job of putting on plays with humorous Catholic themes. This year, the theater is putting on a play called Moonshot about a man named Melvin who is risk-averse. With a life-altering diagnosis, will Melvin take some chances on things like asking out a girl, reconnecting with old friends, or even going to the moon? There are two performances left, this evening and tomorrow evening, June 26 and 27, at 7:00 pm. Use code PARISH for $5 off your ticket! The play is held at the Helene Houle Auditorium at St. Agnes Catholic School in St. Paul.
Little Flower Chapel Update: Boyer Construction and their subcontractors continue to make progress in our chapel. They ground the floors to remove the glue last week, and the stained-glass windows were removed for repair. We expect that the chapel work will take another couple of months, with the hope that the chapel will reopen around September 1.
Paver engraving orders are now open: Make a lasting memorial for your family or a loved one! Pavers are $150 for the first paver and $125 for each additional. Forms are available at entrances and online. Turn forms in at the parish office. Orders are due Tuesday, September 8. Questions? Contact John Thomas, 952-262-7182 or
