Greetings in Christ,
This weekend, we wrap up Jesus’ seven parables in Matthew 13 that give us glimpses into the kingdom of heaven. Our Lord gives small movie trailers through these parables, giving us perspective and hopefully motivation to orient our entire lives around Him so that we may enter it. Heaven is that treasure buried in a field or pearl of great price worth all the sacrifices we can make for it in this life. May God give us the grace to have hearts of rich soil ready to embrace Christ and all the necessary sacrifices therein.

A Talk on Artificial Intelligence (AI): Dave Ingham gave a great talk on AI on Tuesday, including how it can benefit humanity by helping us gather information, boost productivity, and reduce workload. Dave also looked at the potential risks to human dignity such as algorithmic bias, displacement of jobs, and erosion of critical-thinking skills. Finally, Dave touched on how people of goodwill can productively engage AI and other novel technology. Below are the slides from Dave’s talk in case you missed it.
Capital Campaign Update: We are like busy bees working on all the marketing materials for the capital campaign that will officially begin the weekend of September 12 – 13. The upcoming campaign is an extraordinary opportunity to strengthen and grow our beloved parish community for many years to come! If you would, please keep the capital campaign in your prayers, including God’s protection, for generous hearts, and that we humbly accept God’s will!
Marriage Advice: Matt Fradd is an Australian American Catholic who hosts a podcast calledPints with Aquinas. He recently interviewed Dr. Peter Kreeft, who is a professor at Boston College and has written over 100 books. Matt asked Dr. Kreeft what advice he had for those getting married. Dr. Kreeft’s response was a showstopper and went viral. I found a clip of that short interaction taken from the longer interview that was over two hours. Matt did a second video providing a little commentary on that sacred moment, including a letter that Dr. Kreeft wrote to his wife that begins about twelve minutes into the video. It is most endearing and charming. Enjoy!

Food Garden Update: As we reach the midpoint of summer, we're grateful for the abundance we've been blessed with this season. The garden has already produced 300 pounds of fresh vegetables, and we're only just heading into the main growing season!
Cucumbers and tomatoes are on the horizon, and we look forward to sharing even more produce with the charities we partner with in the weeks ahead.
We're so thankful to everyone who has given their time and energy to make this season a success. Every hour spent weeding, watering, and planting directly supports our neighbors in need.

Retrouvaille (pronounced re-tro-VI) is French for rediscovery. Through Retrouvaille, a rewarding marriage is out there for you, despite the pain and struggles you may be facing right now. This program offers tools needed to rediscover a loving marriage. Thousands of couples headed for cold, unloving relationships or divorce have successfully overcome their marriage problems by attending Retrouvaille. In addition to the initial weekend, Retrouvaille offers a community of continuing support. For more information, go to helpourmarriage.org.
Confirmation Classes for Persons with Disabilities:
Saturday, Aug. 1 and 15, 9:30-11:30 a.m., St. Richard, Richfield
These classes are for those with special needs or mental or physical disabilities aged 14 or older who have not received the sacrament of confirmation. Both classes are mandatory for guardians and candidates. Find details and registration at archspm.org/events/confirmation-classes-for-persons-with-disabilities.
The World Mission Rosary Project:
Be part of a nationwide effort to create 75,000 rosaries for the beatification Mass of Archbishop Fulton Sheen.
The introduction of the World Mission Rosary was a concrete way to inspire Catholics to live out their baptismal call of mission through prayer to Our Lady, Queen of Apostles, for the success of the Church’s missionary efforts across the world.
Whether you make 100 or 1,000, every rosary becomes part of something larger. Each one will be blessed before the Beatification and will continue to be prayed long after the day is over.

The Vocations Office is hosting an info session at SJV for parents and high-school men who might be interested in learning about the seminary. This will be on Wednesday, August 12, starting at 5:00 pm, and it includes Mass, dinner, a presentation, and a tour of the seminary. Check out this flyer.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of World Mission Sunday and the beatification of Archbishop Fulton Sheen, the Center for Mission will be praying the World Mission Rosary at different parishes throughout the Archdiocese where there is a larger presence of parishioners representative of one of the five regions of the World Mission Rosary. Find more information and upcoming dates on the event page.
Estate Planning: A reminder that we have a Little Flower Legacy Society at St. Therese to encourage planned and estate gifts to our parish, our school, or one of our endowment funds. Please include St. Therese as a beneficiary in your estate planning! It is an opportunity to give back to our beloved parish and ensure that our parish remains financially viable for generations to come!
