Greetings in Christ,
This weekend, the Church gives us a lovely little scene with our Lord walking on the water in the middle of the night and Peter stepping out of the boat to meet him. Naturally, when Peter sees the wind, he becomes frightened and begins to sink. As always, Jesus reaches out His hand to catch Peter and brings him back to safety. We can all identify with Peter in that we want to be close to Jesus, especially during difficult times, and yet, we feel like we are sinking. May this little scene provide a little consolation and encouragement that our Lord always reaches out His hand to you.
Capital Campaign Update: This weekend we will begin praying our capital campaign prayer, asking for our Lord’s blessing on our parish as we begin this important endeavor. Additionally, we will begin our first frequently asked questions (FAQ) series on our capital campaign projects. This weekend’s FAQ on the school addition will include building two new classrooms, remodeling the middle school bathrooms, and creating a middle school common space for our students. Below is the capital campaign prayer and the FAQ on the middle school addition.
Missionary Appeal: Each year, the archdiocese asks every parish to welcome a missionary who shares about their ministry or diocese and invites the community’s support. This year, Fr. Daniel Mallam will be joining us at St. Therese the weekend of August 8–9.
Fr. Daniel is a Nigerian priest currently studying in Rhode Island, and he will be making an appeal on behalf of the Diocese of Kafanchan in Nigeria. A second collection will be taken up for this appeal.
If you choose to contribute, please make checks payable to Church of St. Therese and write
“Mission” on the memo line. Thank you for your generosity and prayerful support.
Chapel Update: Boyer Construction is completing the replacement of the window frames in our chapel. The changes will also help save energy to maintain the heating and cooling in the winter and summer. Our tile worker made progress this week on our new flooring. The stained-glass windows have been sent off for repair and should be reinstalled in October. Finally, we are working on how to best present our new Stations of the Cross with little frames and lighting.
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary: A note that the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is
not a holy day of obligation this year. Naturally, we will still have Mass to celebrate and honor all that our Lord has done for our Blessed Mother on Saturday, August 15 at 8:00 am. I invite you to come and celebrate our Blessed Mother’s assumption into heaven! We will have confessions as normal after the 8:00 am Mass.

Come and rest in the loving presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. In the quiet of Adoration, He receives every burden, every hope, and every whispered prayer. This is sacred time to simply be with the Lord — to let His peace settle your heart, to place your worries before Him, and to allow His gentle love to renew your spirit.
The August focus for Reclaiming Sundays is Service: Megan Plum, mother of six and executive director of Guiding Star Wakota, who is one of our Giving Tree partners, shares how prayer and service go hand-in-hand and help to keep the Lord’s Day holy. Let’s reclaim Sundays for the Lord and our families.

The World Mission Rosary Project: Be part of a nationwide effort to create
75,000 rosaries for the beatification Mass of Archbishop Fulton SheenThe introduction of the World Mission Rosary was a concrete way to inspire Catholics to live out their baptismal call of mission through prayer to Our Lady, Queen of Apostles, for the success of the Church’s missionary efforts across the world.
Whether you make 100 or 1,000, every rosary becomes part of something larger. Each one will be blessed before the Beatification and will continue to be prayed long after the day is over.
World Mission Rosaries need to be mailed or dropped off by Sept. 1 to the Archdiocesan Catholic Center
777 Forest Street
